Kaiju (怪獣) is a Japanese word that translates in English to "monster" or “strange creature,” an almost painfully perfect image that not only encapsulates the savage sounds being produced by the duo, but also the superhuman grip that they hold on the current dubstep scene. Despite being a fairly new addition to the underground bass music circuit, Kaiju has rapidly become one of dubstep's highest sought-after and respected acts for their impeccable execution of staggeringly filthy sound design. During their short time in the limelight, Kaiju has already been signed exclusively to Deep Medi Musik and has garnered support from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Mala, Vivek, Youngsta, J:Kenzo, Biome, Distance and Truth, a monumental feat for the budding duo that proves the sheer impact and importance of their sound.
As creators of some of the most in-demand and heavily guarded dubplates in the underground scene, it's surely a treat when Kaiju unleashes their productions to their fast-growing legion of fans. While the duo excels in delivering the most pristine variety of creepy-crawling, viciously gnawing tunes, they are also adept in supplying productions and DJ mixes that are rich in dubstep history, bursting with the genre's original reggae-based roots. Such is the case with their most recent two track Deep Medi release, Burn Down Babylon / Wrong Tings (Medi093). The fact that Kaiju is capable of executing quality lessons in old school reggae/dub 101, whilst simultaneously cranking out some of dubstep's gnarliest tunes with equal amounts of effortless success showcases the duo's deeply nurtured knowledge and respect for the genre. This crucial characteristic, paired with their unquenchable thirst for pushing the creative limits of their sound, serves to solidify Kaiju's rightful place as indispensable champions for the unwritten future of dubstep.
